MY STORY
Hi, my name is Dakota, and I am the Founder and CEO of BeckStudios6. I am currently pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Digital Cinematography at Full Sail University, Class of 2026.
My love for film—particularly horror—wasn’t immediate. From the ages of three to thirteen, I wanted nothing to do with the genre. I still remember being six years old, peeking around the corner as my mom and her friend watched The Exorcist(1973). The infamous spider-walk scene sent me running back under the covers, convinced horror films weren’t for me.
That all changed at thirteen. One Halloween, determined to face my fears, I put in a DVD of Freddy vs. Jason (2003). My heart pounded as the menu loaded, but instead of hitting “Play,” I clicked on “Behind the Scenes.” Forty-five minutes later, I realized I was hooked—not just on the film, but on the process of making it. I pressed play on the movie itself, and by the time the credits rolled, I knew horror wasn’t something to fear—it was something to embrace.
From there, I dove into classics like Halloween (1978), A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, and even returned to The Exorcist. In middle school, my fascination with horror grew into a dream of acting. I took singing and acting lessons, performed in school plays and musicals, joined local theater, and even attended acting camps. While financial barriers and lack of representation kept me from fully pursuing acting at the time, my best friend once asked: “What about making horror movies instead?” That question planted a seed.
Life took me in different directions—I even trained as a Dental Assistant—but the call to filmmaking never left. In 2016, just before graduating high school, I stumbled across a Full Sail University booth at Warped Tour. It felt like fate. I enrolled and later began my degree in Digital Cinematography, but setbacks—including financial struggles, the pandemic, theft of my equipment, and personal loss—put my education and dreams on pause.
After years of rebuilding, I re-enrolled at Full Sail University in 2025, determined to finish what I started. Today, I’m excelling in my program, maintaining strong grades, and working toward my graduation in 2026.
My journey has come full circle: from a kid too scared to press “Play” on a horror film, to someone who now embraces the art form in its entirety. My ultimate goal is to merge my two passions—acting and filmmaking—to create and perform in horror films that inspire, entertain, and leave a lasting impact on audiences.
